Formula: ready to feed vs powder

Has anyone used a ready to feed formula and also the same formula but in a powder form and noticed a difference? I use similac advance powder but noticed that the ready to feed I had samples of seems to have a thicker consistency. Did anyone's baby tolerate the ready to feed and powder differently even though it's the same "flavor"?

Yes, we used ready to feed similac sensitive when he was first born for the first few weeks. My sis had recommended using it over powder bc it's easier for his tummy and spit up less. Which was the case. We noticed a difference when we started powder. Now he's adjusted and handles it better. I felt like the ready mix is darker in color and thicker.

DD spit up a lot less with ready to feed enfamil infant , the powder has made her spit up more and caused her reflux to get worse

Did you guys notice a difference with gas? I was thinking of using the ready to feed specifically at night to help cut down on gas. She seems to wake herself up a lot with nighttime farts. She doesn't seem to be in pain and has bowel movements without a problem but I thought maybe the ready to feed would be easier on her belly at nighttime.

Yes, her gas has also worsened with the powder !

In Canada it is not advised to use powder until babies are 12 weeks due to the fact that it is not sterile, while ready feed is, and that it introduces much more air simply by the way it needs to be mixed.

I was unaware of this and gave baby powder & ready feed when I was having supply trouble. I have noticed baby gets a little constipated and far more gassy with powder. With ready feed her diaper output was far more similar to her exclusive breast fed days.

@Nikster33,

I'm in Canada and haven't heard of that but it makes complete sense!  We tried powder when my LO was ahour 2 weeks old due to the cost of the ready to feed but it made him constipated. We now use concentrate for when we are at home and ready to feed when we are out. Now knowing this information we may try the powder when he is a bit older.  He is 9 and a half weeks now.

@kfirkola,

I had no idea either! No nurse or LC told me. It was a friend who had premie twins, so I asked the LCs and they were like "yes, that's true. Powder isn't considered sterile, and so baby should be on ready feed for the first few months".

Geez, thanks for letting me know. Lol!

@kfirkola,

Also, the powder constipated my LO too.

We use the ready to feed during the day and powder with room temp water at night so we don't have to warm it up. We use the powder when we travel too - much easier. I do think the ready to feed is gentler on his tummy so I try to do as many of those as possible.

Also, try swirling when making a bottle with powder instead of shaking - way less bubbles!

We started with the powdered version and switched to the ready-made and we noticed that my LO constipation went away

Agree with pp , she's been more constipated with powder. Been thinking about switching back to ready feed but unsure how LO will adjust

She prefers the ready to feed better taste wise but her poops are more watery when using the liquid. Also the ready to feed stains more when she spits it up. Ready to feed is brown and the powder is white. She doesn't really mind the difference the only thing is if we switch from the liquid to the powder she gets bad gas.
